David, free software is the ONLY valid language model.
C = free, and all other languages are endangered
species. This creates a "business gap" which will
be jumped when the pressure gets high enough: the
sheer incomprehensibility of standard software.

If some funding agency can see past the end of
their nose, they will see massive business
opportunities will follow from a change of
language paradigm. Inmos tried to do it, and
failed by being too proprietary - they did not
think big enough.

The step from being a "community" to spearheading
such a change is not so great, John. It would cost
less than one trip by the Space Tourist. Really.
Sometimes I think "business model" = "requirement
to continue past mistakes".

There has to be a way out. I for one am hoping to
avoid spending my declining years fighting an ever
expanding river of gobbledegook whenever I want to
build something. Even if I have to abandon the
computing field altogether.
