Roger and all -

Re "applications for massively parallel system" -

All the apps I've ever needed them for have been "pushovers" in
the sense of lots of identical tasks with varying initial conditions.
This isn't quite SIMD, because following the identical tasks can
lead to different branches, but it still makes one think it's too
good to be true. My (optimistic) notion is that big value can be
made from algorithms that can be expressed in this form, very
compute intensive, low communication required. Here's a specific
example: voice recognition that simultaneously analyzes the same
sounds according to different voice paradigms (me - me talking
fast - me with a cold - my wife -etc) and takes the best result.
By a Clearspeed-like reduction in power needs you get a handheld
voice-to-text recorder that can record a conversation between
several people.
