Newsgroups: comp.parallel From: parallel@netcom.com (B. Mitchell Loebel) Subject: The PARALLEL Processing Connection, April 11th Meeting Notice Organization: NETCOM On-line Communication Services (408 241-9760 guest) Date: 11 Apr 1994 15:14:39 GMT April 11th - Run-Time Reconfigurable Logic - In Search of Affordable High Performance Computing Nick Treddenick, is the Chief Scientist at Altera Corporation; he will present the case for run time reconfigurable hardware. Incidentally, there is a similar thread in the program of the International Parallel Processing Symposium in Cancun, Mexico in April. Reconfigurability time is of the order of milliseconds so that the devices can be used in multifunction boards with the reprogramming taking place during a process context switch. Alternatively, reconfigurability could be used self-adaptively in Neural Network systems. In any event, they provide a way to the high performance normally associated with ASICs without requiring the usually large outlay of dollars and, of course, hardware is intrinsically parallel. A discussion of member entrepreneurial projects currently underway will begin at 7:15PM and the main meeting will start promptly at 7:45PM at Sun Microsystems at 901 San Antonio Road in Palo Alto, California. This is just off the southbound San Antonio exit of 101. Northbound travelers also exit at San Antonio and take the overpass to the other side of 101. Please be prompt; as usual, we expect a large attendance; don't be left out or left standing. There is a $10 fee for non-members and members will be admitted free. Yearly membership fee for individuals is $50; corporate membership fee is $400/year. -- B.
