Collaborators include The Australian National University, the South Australian Centre for Parallel Computing, CSIRO Mathematical and Information Sciences and Sydney Vislab. The OLDA Program seeks to demonstrate to Australian industrial and scientific communities the potential benefits of high performance computing and mass storage systems connected via broadband wide-area networks. The program will carry out research and development in distributed object systems ("middleware") for this environment and demonstrate the benefits through prototype applications. The appointments will be made at either Postdoctoral Fellow (Level A)/Research Fellow (Level B)/ANU Officer Grade 7 (Information Technology) levels depending upon the qualifications and experience of applicants. POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW/RESEARCH FELLOW (Level A/Level B) Non-Continuing Ref: ACS 22.3.2 The senior appointee would be expected to lead a small project team and have a research record and active interest in distributed systems technologies. An important duty of the position is to collaborate effectively with project teams at other sites. Applicants for this position will need to be able to provide research leadership in several of the following areas: evaluation of distribution technologies such as CORBA or Java-RMI, data storage across diverse mechanisms, massive data transfers, high level protocols, latency issues, reliability and utilisation, and wide area distributed network programming. ANU Officer Grade 7 (Information Technology) Fixed Term Ref: R69520410/G972174 This appointee would be expected to join a small project team, develop code to support distributed applications and perform systems administration duties. Previous experience in a software engineering and/or research environment is highly desirable. Applicants with an active interest in high performance computing systems, broadband networks or distributed systems technologies will be well regarded.
