Hi,

I installed aMPICH version 1.1 on my linux box in the user space and I
am using it. Does it make a difference if the system administrator
installs it in the kernel space. What I mean by the difference is about
the mpi message sending overhead, latency and things like that.

I have this doubt, because, I measured the time taken for the routines
to send packets using mpi in linux box(two processor Pentium Pro
166Mhz) and SUN machines sparc5. It was found that the time taken in
linux box is almost 3 times of that in sparc5. and mpich is installed in
the kernel in the SUN machines. I measured the time by sending like
10000 packets continuously from one machine to another machine of fixed
size(128, 256 etc..)

thanks,
