Not to forget the various SCI-based solutions. Concerning MPI, SCALI (
http://www.scali.com ) has a very low-latency MPI-Implementation called
ScaMPI, which achieves latencies of well less than 10 microseconds.

However, we use SCI for shared-memory-programming.
