Summary:

We'll assume that the in and out buffers can't be
the same. 

Just to criticize what I consider to
be an outstanding standard document, I think this
information should have been clarified in an
'advice to user' or something. Jim rightly claims
that the standard would lead you to the above
conclusion; however, standards shouldn't lead, they
should specify.:)
