Ok, that last message maybe boils down to this:

mpirun -machinefile x -np y z

spawns (y-1) copies of z on machines from the machinefile x,
and _one_copy_one_the_machine_i'm_running_on_.

Can anyone confirm this? This would be a serious bug.
