Hi all,

I'm on the brink of giving parallel computing a go,
because I have access to several different platforms all
linked up in the network.
As an unexperienced parallelist, I have to make a decision
whether to use MPI or PVM (what else is there to choose from?).

I found the paper by Geist, Kohl and Papadopoulos,
"PVM and MPI: a Comparison of Features" (1996).

According to their analysis, PVM seems to perform better
in case of different platforms, while MPI is better at handling
many CPUs in one machine.
I should choose for PVM in that case.

I wonder whether that report is still up-to-date and people
generally still agree with the conclusions.

Please tell me your opinion to help me making a good choice.

Thanks a lot!

Rob.
