The third NPACI Parallel Computing Institute will be held at SDSC June 21-25,
1999. The two previous institutes were held in August; the shift to June
dates is intended to accommodate both Institute lecturers and attendees who
are on academic schedules. Thus the deadline for applications has been moved
to May 1, 1999. A limited number of scholarships covering room, meals and
transportation are available

For full details on the Institute, see http://www.npaci.edu/Training/
NPACI_Institute99. The Institute will combine lectures on the performance
characteristics of high-performance computing resources, programming
methodologies and tools, and parallel algorithms with lab time during which
attendees can experiment with the techniques and materials presented.
Applicants are asked to describe the projects on which they are working or
for which the Institute experience might prove valuable. Attendees will be
selected to provide an appropriate mix between projects and Institute
teachers; as many as possible will be accommodated.

The Institute will be directed by Tim Kaiser of the Scientific Computing
Group of SDSC, and a wide range of topics in parallel computing will be
presented by staff from NPACI partner institutions. Presenters currently
scheduled include Harvey Wasserman, Robert van de Geijn, Cherri Pancake, and
John May; others will be announced as the time for the Institute nears.

Questions may be directed to Tim Kaiser (tkaiser@sdsc.edu)
