Has anybody used MPICH on Sparc Linux?

I compiled MPICH apparently without trouble, but when I run a task
using mpirun I get the following error:

     --> select: protocol failure in circuit setup

Note that I compiled using the 'Linux' architecture (even though it
appears to assume Intel Linux - there was no sparc linux option) using
the ch_p4 device.

Any assistance appreciated.
