You might verify that pvm is reading your hostfile correctly.
Try this:

   % pvmd -d8 pvmhosts

PVM will respond with a listing of all possible hostfile
options, for each machine, with their settings in quotes.
Empty quotes means the option is not set (i.e. the default
will be used).
