The reasoning behind my post describing experiences with a concrete
applications was not to question the choice of a particular programming
paradigm in developing that application. It was essentially to
illustrate that usually it is not a single factor that dictates the
choice of programming paradigm. That is to say, efficiency is not the
only criterion. If that were so, we would still be programming "mov R11,
R12". Indeed the replies to my post confirm this. Availability and
stability of the systems using that paradigm, availability of
programmers, and many many other reasons, political and others (lets not
even go there) lie behind the choice of a programming paradigm.
