All,

Can't start pvmd is the error I get when adding a remote host however on
checking the remote host pvmd has actually started. I have set up pvm to
work correctly on my network at home using 3.4.beta6 on linux and am
attempting to add a remote host on my university's system when this
error occurs. The university is using pvm3.3.11 on ALPHA's. The pvm log
file shows

[t80040000] 04/26 12:59:42 LOCALHOST (LOCALHOST:1929) LINUX 3.4.beta6
[t80040000] 04/26 12:59:42 ready Sun Apr 26 12:59:42 1998
[t80040000] 04/26 12:59:46 startack() host REMOTEHOST expected version,
got "ddpro<2315"
[t80040000] 04/26 13:00:24 netinput() bogus pkt from REMOTEHOST:3643
[t80040000] 04/26 13:02:35 dm_halt() from (LOCALHOST), halting...
[t80040000] 04/26 13:02:35 work() pvmd halting
[t80040000] 04/26 13:02:35 pvmbailout(0)

but of course the pvmd is up and running on REMOTEHOST.

Using rsh HOST /local/pvm3/lib/pvmd -s from the local or remote hosts
gives

[pvmd pid8851] slave_config: bad args
[pvmd pid8851] pvmbailout(0)

which is what it should expect as far as I know.
Has anyone got any suggestions?

thanks,
Jon Snow
