I've just been through this and versions with a different second number
may not be interoperable, e.g. 3.3 is not with 3.4 but 3.3.1 would be
with 3.3.2. I found this at http://www.netlib.org/pvm3/faq_html/faq.html
in "Can I have two different versions of PVM on the same machine".
