We handle all of the networking/computer technology for the schools in our county. We also run a local ISP. I have just setup a cluster of linux boxes with pvm. Available to me are a couple of labs of pentium 300s which I can easily add to the cluster with boot disks. Over night and on weekends, the cluster can have exclusive access to the labs. I set all of this up thinking it would be an intersting project. It was, but so far, the only application I have is a parallel program which calculates pi. I have found POVRAY for pvm and have heard about a patch to gmake to parallelize it. However, none of these applications seem very useful to the school district or the ISP. I was wondering if anyone knows of any applications which may be useful. Or, if there is any way which cpu time could be sold on the cluster. Otherwise, I will probably end up just having to tear it down... Any suggestion would be appreciated.
