I suppose it's the opposite - harder, less efficient, etc...

I imagine running it on NT need not be as efficient as on Linux.
It's well-known that http-servers under Linux 
outperform http-servers under NT; the task of running PVM is
somehow similar to http servicing.

Also, PVM was developed on and for Unix platforms, and NT is the
most pathetic Unix-like platform around :-)
