Hi PVMer:

I have installed PVM 3.3 and 3.4 on a Linux/i686 system with recent kernels
(2.0.36 and 2.1.129) with unsatisfactory results. First the original
PVM 3.3.11 source from netlib doesn't compile (error in hoster.c).
A patched version from the Beowulf project mostly works but not XPVM.
(BTW are there any official patches of 3.3.11 beside those of netlib?).
PVM 3.4beta7 does compile but many example programs do not run correctly
(processes stop prematurely).
All the compilations have been made with gcc 2.7.2.3.

If anybody with similar setup has suceeded to install PVM, I would be glad
to know the particular combination of Linux kernel and PVM version/patch.
It might be a problem with recent Linux kernels.
Another possibility could be the NIC driver
(tulip.c:v0.90 10/20/98 from becker@cesdis.gsfc.nasa.gov).
