If you go to the PVM home page:
http://www.epm.ornl.gov/pvm/pvm_home.html , you'll find among other
things a paper comparing PVM and MPI. One of the points they make is
that MPI is faster over a homogeneous network and PVM is better suited
to a heterogeneous one. That paper may be a useful starting point.
