I just built  pvm 3.4.0 and rebuilt xpvm 1.2.5 yesterday.
This was on a Redhat 5.2 systems and they both seem to run like a champ

Did you check the README and make sure you have the TK_LIBRARY and
TCL_LIBRARY variables (and all the others) set correctly?
