What exactly does the option MPP-Front in PVM does?

In the PVM-documentation I read a couple of interesting
things about what PVM does when one of the mashines
in the cluster happens to be a SMP and sending a message
to a job on itself.
It was a bit unclear if this special-handling of message-bufefrs
allways happens on all SMPs or if you find it in just a few
special implementation for big irons. Will it happen on normal,
small X86/Alpha-SMPs ?
