8th Euromicro Workshop on Parallel and Distributed Processing
Rhodos, Greece, January 19th-21st 2000

Submission deadline extended. Papers due: 18th June

CALL FOR PAPERS

Recent years have confirmed the rapid advances in the development of
Parallel and Distributed Processing Systems. Their growth in
importance for research and industry has confronted designers of both
architecture and software systems with highly challenging tasks.

The eighth Euromicro workshop aims to provide a forum for the
presentation of these and other issues by original research
presentations providing a medium for exchanging of new ideas at the
highest technical level. Topics of interest include, but are not
restricted to:

- Parallel Computer Systems: massively parallel machines, workstation
clusters, interconnection networks, memory organization, support for
parallel I/O, embedded parallel and distributed systems,
  fault-tolerance issues.

- Languages, Compilers and Runtime Support Systems: task and data
parallel languages, functional and logic languages, object-oriented
languages, scheduling and load balancing, task and object migration,
  fault tolerance issues.

- Models and Tools for Parallel Programming Environments: performance
prediction and analysis, simulation, knowledge-based parallel program
  development, visualization tools.

- Advanced Applications: multi-disciplinary applications, parallel
databases, computations over irregular domains, numerical applications
with multi-level parallelism, real time distributed applications,
  distributed business applications.

- Distributed Systems: Distributed Databases, distributed OO systems,
web computing, distributed operating systems, distributed algorithms,
distributed shared memory system, heterogeneous distributed systems,
  metacomputing.

Submission of papers

Prospective authors should send a full paper not exceeding 4000 words
in length and including a 150-200 word abstract. The electronic
submission procedure is the following:

PAPER SUBMISSION: send by email a PostScript, PDF, Word or RTF file of
your paper to pnorbert@sztaki.hu specifying as subject paper (for an
anonymous reviewing process, the first page of the paper should
contain only the title and the abstract). The file should be first
compressed (either unix compress, gzip or pkzip) then encoded (either
uuencode or MIME). This email will generate a replay containing the
paper number assigned and the cover page form.

COVER PAGE SUBMISSION: complete the fields of the cover page and email
it to pnorbert@sztaki.hu specifying as subject cover page.

Alternatively, prospective authors can send to the program chairperson
the paper by postal mail. In that case, they should send 5 copies of
the full paper and a cover page containing: title of the paper, full
names, affiliations, abstract, topics, postal and email address, fax
and telephone numbers of the contact person. The following information
should be included in the submission: "Neither this paper nor any
version close to it has been or is being offered elsewhere for
publication. All necessary clearances have been obtained for the
publication of this paper. If accepted, the paper will be made
available in Camera-ready form by November 13rd, 1999, and it will be
personally presented at the PDP'2000 by the author or one of the
co-authors. The presenting author(s) will pre-register for PDP'2000
before the due date of the Camera-ready paper". The proceedings will
be published by IEEE Computer Society. Papers exceeding 8 pages will
be charged NLG 100 per page in excess.

Special sessions

Sessions on special topics proposed by delegates will be
welcome. Please send suggestions to the program chairman before the
closing date for submissions.

General Information

The venue of the conference is Rhodos, the well known Greek island, a
favorite resort since ancient times, with many traditional, cultural
and scenic interests, including its unique Mediaeval City. The island
enjoys a mild climate with 300 days of sunshine a year. Inquiries
about the workshop arrangements should be directed to the Organising
Chairman.
