The tutorial will begin with a discussion of Java threads in the context of Hoare's CSP (Communicating Sequential Processes). The design of embedded systems using CSP will then be covered. An introduction to Communicating Java(TM) Threads, which are implemented in a class library on top of Java(TM), will follow. The afternoon will start off with a presentation on the use of CSP to design deadlock-free systems. The day concludes with an extended session of practical examples. Participants are urged to register early due to space limitations. Participants are encouraged to bring their personal laptops; this is optional (free software, ..., will be provided.)
