Programs are created by drawing and then annotating a directed graph that shows the structure of the parallel program. Nodes represent sequential computations, and data flows on arcs interconnecting the nodes, which run in parallel. The CODE system can produce parallel programs for the Sequent Symmetry as well as for any PVM-based network of heterogeneous machines. The system itself runs on Suns. CODE version 2.1 ---------------- CODE 2.1 is a major new release of CODE. It features a sophisticated new user-interface which provides many improvements to the previous version of CODE, making it easier and more pleasant to use. These features include: - a vastly-improved, Macintosh-like interface (a la MacDraw) - object grouping, alignment, cut & paste, and undo - multiple windows - an integrated runtime environment - a hierarchy browser - flexible printing of graphs (in PostScript) and annotations. Availability and other information ---------------------------------- - CODE is available directly from the CODE home page at Please consult the CODE home page for more information about CODE, including links to documentation and papers. - Bug reports should be sent directly to the CODE mailing list, code2@cs.utexas.edu - To subscribe to the CODE mailing list to be notified about future releases of CODE and related issues, send a message to emery@cs.utexas.edu === Emery Berger | Systems Analyst + Parallel Programming Group | Department of Computer Science | University of Texas at Austin | From: emery@cs.utexas.edu (Emery Berger) Newsgroups: comp.parallel.pvm,comp.sys.sequent Subject: Re: [ANNOUNCE] CODE visual parallel prog. sys., release 2.1a1 Date: 25 Jul 1995 10:33:33 -0500 Organization: CS Dept, University of Texas at Austin In article , Michael Turok wrote: > >In article <3uoold$5sf@curly.cs.utexas.edu> emery@cs.utexas.edu (Emery >Berger) writes: >What's the difference between CODE and hence? > >Thanks, >Michael A very good question, especially since both were designed by Peter Newton. A paper by him and others describing both systems (which should illuminate the differences quite clearly) is available at Other documentation about CODE is available via the CODE home page: If you are interested in an overview of CODE, I recommend the following paper, which is a bit out of date but nonetheless a good introduction: -- Emery === Emery Berger | Systems Analyst + Parallel Programming Group | Department of Computer Science | University of Texas at Austin |
