Implementing an Active Chart Parser on a Transputer Network

Authors: Edwards, Janet, Connolly, John H.

Abstract:

Active chart parsing is a well-known technique for the syntactic analysis of natural language. This paper is concerned with the parallel implementation of the relevant algorithm in Occam-2 on a Transputer network. Different parallelisation strategies are compared, and it is concluded that better results are obtained by splitting the grammar associated with the parser than by decomposing the algorithm itself.
